Finding ways to reduce the carbon footprint of the Estate and work with Nature as much as possible to provide renewable power is a fundamentally important strategy for us. We have started by installing a wood boiler at Haddon Hall and have built a micro hydro electric plant at Alport Mill which will power up to 30 houses.
The main coke fired boiler at Haddon was replaced last year with a Windhager log fired system. This Austrian system supplies all hot water for the Hall (there is no central heating).

Completed in June 2009, the Estate has built a c.30KW hydro electric plant in the village of Alport. Most of the plant has been buried underground beside an old mill, and is powered by the River Lathkill.
